The Gayton group of parishes covers eight villages, each with their own individual delights set in the West Norfolk countryside. We are fortunate to live in a place of such beauty with quiet lanes, country fields and footpaths, close to the North Norfolk coast and to King's Lynn, a thriving old market town.
Five of our villages enjoy regular worship in their parish churches,
• St Nicholas, Gayton,
• St Mary, Gayton Thorpe,
• All Saints, East Winch, (with St Cecilia, West Bilney)
• All Saints, Ashwicken and Leziate (with St James Bawsey)
• St Mary, East Walton.
St Cecilia at West Bilney is a closed church cared for by the Norfolk Churches Trust and the ruin of St James Bawsey is a well-known local landmark, steeped in history and well worth a visit.
The benefice has five independent church councils, however we work together as a group to develop and grow our common mission across our communities. We seek, through faith and fellowship, to use all the resources of our church family to make the gospel known to everyone, of all ages, to be welcoming places, open to God and one another where everyone is valued and where everyone feels at home.
The churches have stood for centuries, and still stand as a witness to lifes most enduring values. They are the main focus of the villages, places for reflection and celebration, treasured by their communities to whom they belong - people from all walks of life, people of all needs and aspirations and beliefs.
Our churches have been here, not only in times of national importance but also in times of personal crisis, anxiety and rejoicing. Always available and ministering to the needs of countless local people. People just like you!
